The Trade Union for the Public and Welfare Sectors JHL is a trade union for employees in the public services and private welfare services sector in Finland.
JHL offers a modern channel for the unionisation of all wage and salary earners in the public and welfare sectors. It is highly influential in developing the working environment and work in general.
A member of the European Federation of Public Service Unions (EPSU), which comprises 8 million public service workers from over 265 trade unions, JHL actively participates in EPSU meetings. This event related to the 45th Meeting of the EPSU Executive Committee held on 11 & 12 February 2014 at the International Trade Unions House, Brussels.
A particularly important meeting to attend ahead of the 2014 EPSU Congress in Toulouse.
ONCALL was asked to provide Simultaneous Interpreting from English into Finnish and from Finnish into English.
The interpreter was required for two days, 11-12 February 2014.
Same day notice meant that the response time was crucial. Every minute counted. Rare Language Finnish Simultaneous interpreters with English retour are scheduled weeks in advance. They often travel to and from Brussels, The Hague, Luxembourg Paris and Strasbourg.
Parliamentary week meant that most Finnish Simultaneous Interpreters were already busy working at European institutions and related organisations.
Tight budget meant that travel costs should be reduced to a minimum, therefore interpreters based in other European capital cities were excluded from the search.

As an international supplier of interpreting and translation solutions with several offices globally, the Coordinator contacted the London office to try resources there for the second day as a potential option for the client and to ensure that the most appropriate interpreter was sought.
By using several resources at her disposal, the Coordinator was able to provide a fully qualified, Finnish Simultaneous interpreter who arrived within two hours of the original request from the client and who was able to interpret the following day too. The address and contact details were sent immediately via SMS and email to the interpreter so that he could start his journey straight away.
The meeting continued without disruption and all the delegation was delighted.

Due to the responsiveness and extensive resources of ONCALL, Finnish simultaneous interpretation was provided at the International Trade Unions House for JHL when no other provider could meet the request.
